Who establishes point spreads?
Odds makers set the odds for bookmaking firms. The odds they set must reflect how likely any particular outcome is as accurately as possible. It’s both art and science: knowledge of mathematics and statistics is essential, as well as in-depth knowledge of the sport being considered. Knowledge of current situations—player health, coaching changes, line-up changes, et cetera— also factor into the eventual odds released.
