What are the basics of Blackjack?
Basics
Also commonly referred to as 21. Blackjack occurs when the first two cards dealt have an exact value of 21.
How to Win
The objective is to beat dealers, not other players. The winner's cards must get as close to 21 as possible without going over (resulting in a 'bust' and automatic loss).
The hand value is calculated by adding the designated points for all cards.
Ace: 1 or 11 point(s), player chooses
Face cards (Kings/Queens/Jacks): 10 points
Numbered cards: actual value (Example: 3 card = 3 points)
Suits (Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds and Spades): only impact value in rare game variations
Game Play
Players are able to have 3 hands max, with a bet placed for each.
Two cards per hand are dealt face-down, and one dealer card is dealt face-up.
Hit: extra card dealt
Stand: no action is taken
Double: bet(s) are doubled, extra card(s) are dealt, cannot be made with 'split' aces and no further play is allowed
Split: the first two cards dealt (of the same value) can be 'split' into two hands, with each receiving an extra card, requiring a second bet of the initial amount
Surrender: the hand is discarded and half of the bet is returned; not allowed with 'split' hands
